Here is a prime example why not to get your history lessons from movies:
Basic plot: Imhotep was the high priest of Seti I and was in love with Seti’s woman, Anck Su Namun. chaos ensues…
There are only a few historical flaws with this story. Imhotep was in fact a doctor and engineer not a high priest which is really just a small thing. The big problem is that Imhotep lived during the Old Kingdom under Djoser (3rd dynasty) and Seti I (19th dynasty) was during the New Kingdom. So unless Imhotep was hundreds of years old at the time, he had nothing to do with Seti I.
No one can prove Seti I didn’t have a lover named Anck Su Namun but if he did she’s been lost in history as there is no evidence of her.
Hamunaptra in the movie is in Thebes and is an ancient Egyptian city. Actually, Hamunaptra is an ancient city but it is in India, not Egypt.
Thebes itself isn’t totally accurate in the movie either. While it was the capital during the 11th-18th dynasty most of the administration remained in Memphis. By the time Seti I was pharaoh the seat was located in the Delta. So there is no reason to assume Seti I had a home in Thebes.
